Project Summary

Eagle Canyon is a 3000 hectare residential estate that holds over 800 freestanding houses and an additional 7 clusters holding 500 units. The estate is walled off from the surrounding areas with strict security for access in and out of the estate. The estate is run by an elected trustee board that ensures the estate runs effectively and efficiently. The estate holds many facilities for the use of it's residents and visitors including:

  • Stylish clubhouse

  • 7 000 + meter 18 hole golf course

  • Warm up facilities

  • Putting green

  • Superb facilities for entertaining

  • 24-hour estate security - video monitors on 2,5m perimeter walls, electrified fencing,
    controlled access and security patrols

  • Fairways, dams and parks on your doorstep

  • Gym

  • Spa

  • Tennis Courts

  • Tennis Club House

  •  Secure lifestyle in a tranquil environment

  • 12 km tree-lined avenues

  • walkways around landscaped park

This project presents this estate as a country. Its walls as their borders, their trustee board as their government, the clusters as their townships. We look at the consumption of Eagle Canyon. How it sells you a lifestyle that is safe and prestigious but whats hidden is how that requires segregation and an environment that doesn’t engage outside its walls.

By comparing it to our country I’m also asking if it’s in human nature to be tribal. To create communities and to separate and protect that community from outsiders. Or is this based on the fact that we live in a capitalist society and we are recreating that based on our environment.

We often criticise these types of housing estates but we live in a society much like these estates.
